Press play on newly solo artist Rhonnie O’Neal’s latest music video, “When I Get Home,” and enter a colorful, almost psychedelic world where music is felt from your fingertips to your toes.
We warmly welcome Rhonnie O’Neal (she/her) to the i-wave spotlight this week, which has been highly anticipated for me, anyway! I first found her perhaps a year ago via the duo The Queendom, whose “I Deserve This” music video on Zora definitely made an impression. As she states in our interview below, she has faced obstacles in getting to this point in her music career, and she’s also been doing the hard work to get to this moment. That time and work are evident in Rhonnie’s music, from her musical choices to all the visual ones, too.
“Multifaceted” indeed; Rhonnie’s photography and set design experience is definitely felt and appreciated. “When I Get Home” is a sensual, lush track with a video to match. Rhonnie’s flow floats between playful and assertive while her background vocals lull you into the laidback energy. Featured artist Nahncenz’ energy and vocals via the hook match Rhonnie to a T for a home run collab that just feels so GOOD!
Rhonnie plans to drop the video on the blockchain soon. We’ll be watching & listening for her future projects of all kinds! Hear from Rhonnie in her own words below.
Artist Statement of the Moment:
Hey I’m Rhonnie O’Neal. I’m an Alternative RnB/HipHop artist based out of Atlanta, GA. I’ve been making music for majority of my life. For 7 years, I was a part of a HipHop duo called The Queendom. Through that group, I’ve had many amazing music opportunities from opening up for major artist to performing through out the US. We also released our music video for a song called ‘I Deserve This’ on Zora and it sold for .4eth ($1200 usd) about a year ago. That was after only being a part of the space for about a month. Now that I am releasing solo music, I’m looking to release the music video for my new single ‘When I Get Home’ on Glass.xyz.
How are you feeling now?
I’m feeling grateful and proud of myself. I’ve faced many obstacles that’s put me on many detours in regards to my music career and I’m happy to finally have new music out.
What does success mean to you?
Success means doing the work and following through. Just having the willpower to put yourself out there and to share your work is the first step to being successful. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
What work of yours has you excited & inspired right now?
The work that has me excited right now is my new single ‘When I Get Home’ can’t wait to release it on the blockchain.
What does web3 mean to you, and what excites you about it?
What excites me about web3 is its potential. I’m inspired to see people still out here going hard even though the market isn’t favorable right now. I think this shows the importance of web3 and that it will be around for a long time to come.
What artists/creators are inspiring you right now & why?
One artist that is inspiring me right now is Jamee Cornelia. I’ve known Jamee for a long time and I’m so proud of their journey. They’ve really made a name for themselves on and off the blockchain and it’s so beautiful to see.
Fill in the blank: I wish the web3 music world was more ___________________.
Consistent and cohesive. Now that the money is a little low in the space, I don’t feel that the same amount of people are as passionate about the space as they use to be.
Describe yourself in one word!
Multifaceted
What question do you wish more people asked you?
What are you looking for in this life? Their questions may help me answer my own.
How do you stay grounded in the VERY online world of web3?
I know how to disconnect when I need to. I used to believe I had to be online 24/7 to keep up with everything but I’m human with human experiences and disconnecting for online is necessary for your mental health.
What message do you have for fans/supporters?
Do what you love and love what you do.
