Hey darlings, and welcome back to the OFFICIAL Musemind Conversations recaps here on iridescent wave! Musemind Conversations is the new Twitter space from me (Celia Inside), dvdv, and Charisse Sky. We come together once a week to connect around our work and process, and go where the muse takes us topic-wise. You can come too!
Recap:
On episode four (from 1/11/24, our first of the year!), we explore the topic of “authenticity” overall, including in web3 and out.
Here’s a link to the recorded space:
To kick off the year, we took on the topic of authenticity, and what it means to us currently in our musical, creative lives. Charisse kicked us off with this quotation that I love:
“The best part of being authentic is there’s no image to maintain. you will delight some and disturb others. And none of it will concern the truth of your being.”
– @muvamisfit
dvdv chimed in with the fact that, “authenticity is impossible to categorize! It’s like you can’t look into the sun because it’s so powerful.”
While we all agreed, how do we get our personal styles of authenticity out there in a branding way? I said I’ve found this challenging as an artist who has played in multiple, seemingly unrelated genres; people in music marketing tell you that it confuses people when you can’t fit squarely into a stupid, boring box! What ever will we do!
Here’s dvdv’s art summary of the week, featuring this stunning creature:
We touched on web3 too. I said, “I’m not in a place of trying to ‘be successful in web3’ right now because my perception of what I’d have to do to get there simply doesn’t feel authentic to me — it feels superficial. I can’t connect with people who I don’t connect with,” and that connection probably would not sustain.
(We didn’t get into details but you probably have some great guesses on what “what we’d have to do” could mean!)
Hmm! With all this said, we landed in an interesting place: let’s play Fantasy Manager Swap next week where we all play each other’s managers, and give each other our ideas about how to make content that a) feels authentic to us and b) does well!
Quotables:
“For me, personally, I can tell you the aspects of myself but a part of authenticity is knowing how to package it. How do i get people to see the image I see of myself?” – Charisse
“How do I roll all my skills & things into one — and into something that aligns with me — to create some stuff that people will connect with?” – Celia
“When we put something out, we never know how those individual waves or rays (of the sun! drawing ref) will flow out and become something bigger, or create more waves!” – dvdv
“Authenticity is going to cultivate your crowd by itself, but it probably also requires patience. But as long as we’re authentic, we’re creating waves, and we’re not imitating waves of other inauthentic beings.” – dvdv
Catch us tomorrow at 10:30am EST to join the conversation!
