Si tu cambia,

Yo cambio contigo

If you change, I change with you ❤️ Genesis Barrios (he/him/they) takes the i-wave spotlight this week with a new video and a web3-wide drop for his beach fantasy pop song, “La Playa.”

The video, which premiered on Glass on Friday, takes us through the bright lights and beautiful beaches of Miami in both day and night. I’ve known of Genesis — also known as gen.wav on socials — for at least a few months now. When he’s not dropping Latin music bangers (often playing with reggaeton beats like in one of my faves, “SMS”), he’s winning freaking web3 hackathons, working on a startup, and software engineering as a day job. “Ambitious” is one of Barrios’ self-describing words in our interview; this is an artist who knows himself and knows how to make shit happen, as seen by his consistency in music alongside other projects.

Romance is a popular theme for Barrios, and “La Playa” in particular — both the song and the video — captures the magic of finding love in beautiful places. What I love about this release is the different web3 platform drops; web3 collectors can choose whatever piece feels right to them. Beyond Glass, there’s a 0.0108 song piece on Zora, a free lens collect via RiffApp, or you can watch on Lenstube or Youtube. You have options on how you can support this bright dynamo, and collectors are taking notice. Learn more about Barrios in his own words below in this week’s i-wave spotlight.

How are you feeling now?

I’m okay, the laws in florida are a bit stressing but I’m trying to not let it get to me and continue on with my work, my music, and my life.

What does success mean to you?

Success is achieving all of the goals you set out. However, sometimes success comes in other ways, and ways we don’t expect and our expectations change for the better.

What work of yours has you excited & inspired right now?

I’m dropping a music video on Glass and Youtube/Lenstube for my latest single “La Playa”. It’s been a month since I dropped the song and it’s been well received (it’s also available as an NFT on Zora). I made this video with my friend @electraonics and filmed it myself in Spain as well, I’m excited for it to come out as it’s my second music video.

What does web3 mean to you, and what excites you about it?

Web3 means decentralization. The community and collaboration that stems from decentralization is the main plus for me out of web3, aside from all the bugs and tech issues because this is all new!

What artists/creators are inspiring you right now & why?

GRL is one of the artists that has inspired me in web3 the most, they led me to Prism an amazing community of artists. They are very dedicated to everything that they do, leading a community is hard, plus leading twitter spaces (which I’ve never done), and dropping music consistently. Jadyn Violet as well, he was the first space I found when I was looking for the music web3 folks on twitter.. I didn’t even know how to find you guys lol. He’s been very helpful in my own journey and I got to perform at the UVR at Art Basel thanks to Prism!

What message do you have for fans/supporters?

Stay positive, keep going, don’t let the haters get to you. Thank you for your support, just by listening and resonating with my music, I am grateful.

How do you stay grounded in the VERY online world of web3?

Taking breaks from online, only looking at my Following’s posts.
